After two of our sports reporters — Jason McDaniel and Peter Rasmussen — received confirmation Wednesday that former Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Quincy Carter has had talks with Dorados coach Marty Hammond, the speculation began. Hammond, of course, labeled his team’s chances of landing the controversial quarterback as “50/50.”

Now the question is, will the Dorados land the Britney Spears of arenafootball2? We’ll find out in about two months, considering the Dorados open their season March 30.
But the reason why Carter is such a hot commodity isn’t questioned. Cowboys fans will swarm to arenas to see this guy play. Maybe not sellouts, but it will be a much more demanding ticket than your average af2 game. The Dorados want him. The Corpus Christi Sharks want him. And chances are the Amarillo Dusters, Austin Wranglers, Lubbock Renegades and Texas Copperheads wouldn’t mind having Carter as their starting QB as well.
As with Britney, Carter has to tie up a few loose ends first, such as getting out of this rehab program in Florida. After that, chances are, af2 teams will lineup to land Carter, who has been a lightning bolt for drug related activity during his professional football career.
I’d like to see Carter play for the Dorados as much as the next guy, but you have to ask yourself if he’s really worth it. Sure, everyone needs a second chance. Or, in the case of Carter, a third, fourth, fifth and possibly sixth. But at some point you have to draw the line, and that’s something a handfull of af2 teams will have to decide in the next two months.
As for me, I don’t think he’s worth the possible embarrassment of things like this, this and this happening. But then again, I’m not an owner or general manager of a sports franchise trying to fill an arena.
